Traditional craft festival 2013 in Hue

This year’s festival will bring together many typical artisans from many provinces and cities across the country including Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Ha Giang, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Quang Nam, An Giang and Ninh Thuan.

The 2013 Traditional Craft Festival, themed ‘Quintessence of Vietnamese Crafts’, will be held along the banks of Huong River in the central city of Hue from April 27 to May 1.

The highlight of the festival will be the exhibition themed ‘Heritages on the Move’ from the French delegation. Visitors will be introduced to five French ingenious weaving techniques.

An exhibition of French bamboo works, a fashion show entitled ‘The Magic’ with the participation of Vietnamese famous designer Minh Hanh and some foreign others including Francoise Hoffmann from France, Patis Tesoro from Philippines and Kinor Yang from Hong Kong (China) and a display of products made by 20 artisans and craftsmen around the country will also be held during the festival.

Visitors to the festival will have the chance to enjoy unique art programmes and Hue traditional food as well as take part in folk games.

On the occasion, a workshop themed ‘Crafts and Traditional Craft Villages with Tourism – Potentials and Obstacles’ will be organised. A wide range of antiques made from hundreds of years ago will also be showcased at the festival.

The biennial festival aims to honour Vietnamese traditional trade villages and promote their production to contribute to economic and tourism development of Hue city in particular and the country in general.
